Turning your loved one into a zombie for under $10 takes inexpensive (and few) supplies along with limited expertise.
We asked our two local colleges McDaniel and Carroll Community College to take on the challenge.
Here are their creations and how you can create your own….
McDaniel College Zombie
MCDANIEL TEAM: Lauren Pedersen Makeup Artist • Geoffrey Pearson Chief of Staff, President’s Office, McDaniel College, Secretary of the Board of Trustees and Resident Zombie
SUPPLIES:
- Vaseline
- Corn Starch
- Corn Syrup
- Spirit Gum Adhesive
- Liquid Foundation
- Fake Blood Gel
- Eyeshadow Palette
HELPFUL HINTS:
- Fake Blood Gel can be purchased or made by combining corn syrup and red food dye. Hint: the purchased blood dries more quickly than home made blood.
- Eyeshadow palettes Pick up shades of green, orange, purple. Look at photos of bruises and pay attention to how the colors shift and get darker from the center of the wound to outer edges.
- Scar Wax is created by mixing 2 parts corn starch to 1 part vaseline. Mix until sticky but not crumbly. Add foundation to match skin tone. Can be made in advance and stored in a plastic bag.
- Timing Count on your creation taking at least 45 minutes; however, you can save time by making the scar wax the day before.
- 1. Apply Spirit Gum Adhesive
- 2. Form Scar Wax on top of the Spirit Gum Adhesive
- 3. Press Scar Wax down on sides to form the open wound
- 4. Continue to form the full circle
- 5. Use a makeup brush to blend in the foundation
- 6. Apply eyeshadow colors to make the bruising
- 7. Final build up of eyeshadow
- 8. Begin applying dark eyeshadow to face for additional bruising
- 9. Fill the open wound with the fake blood gel
- 10. Fake blood will drip so you will need brush to reapply
- 11. Use a tacky sponge to spread fake blood around the edges
- 12. Final view of wound and bruising
